Net metering consists of the self-consumption of energy produced from renewable sources, such as photovoltaics. With net metering, the power the photovoltaics generate on the roof of a building offsets against the energy the household or business uses. The excess energy gets channeled into the grid either with some compensation or not (in Greece in 2015 without compensation).
